Maddie [in carseat:] Whine!
Daddy: Maddie, what happened? Did you bite your tongue?
M: Yeah. I bite my tongue.
D: You bit your tongue. "Bit" is the past tense of "bite." [Pause] The past tense is for things that happened earlier ... before now.
